A Minute on Series Vs. Standalones

A Minute on Series Vs Stand-alones. This is definitely a me-thing and I suppose a slightly weird angle to have a take on. I love reading stories. All stories. As many stories as I can and if you have been following for a while, you will know my all time favourites are Contemporary Romances. Now, it is quite common to have series, where different interconnected characters will all have their romances across a number of books, usually 3-6 . The biggest series that I have come across so far is 10 books. And that's great, so much world building and shared in-jokes. A good book series can be like a warm hug from an old friend. But it can also be exhausting keeping up! If you have to draw a family tree just so you can keep a track of which character has come from where, that feels like a lot of work. Similarly, if you can't follow the story because there's an ocean of cameos and call backs, that can also be a little bit off putting! Now, I would never presume to tell authors how to go about their work, I am grateful for their work. Nor is this really a criticism of series, I love a good series. No this is more a humble plea for more standalone novels. A self -contained read is a wonderful thing and I think all of us have a favourite story that was just perfect from start to finish, and needed nothing more! What do you think? Does it matter? As always, please feel free to drop book recommendations for either series or standalones.
