Advanced Reader Copy Review: One Last Rodeo by Emma Lucy

One Last Rodeo by Emma Lucy is a second chance romance and book 3 in the Willow Ridge series. I have not read the two previous books in the series, but this did not impact on my ability to read this story. Sawyer and Honey first meet in school, where a shared understanding of growing up in an abusive home develops into a secret friendship. Honey leaves for College and returns 9 years later as a single Mum to the adorable Noah, and Sawyer has become a Bull rider. External events conspire to bring the two together and they begin to reconnect and rediscover what they mean to each other.

I thought this was such a strong story with two beautifully written and heartfelt main characters. Sawyer was my favourite and he made my heart ache with how broken he felt he was and seeing how much his past had impacted on him. There was something really touching about watching his relationship bloom with Noah, which was so healing for the both of them and it was a really nice part of the story to follow. Honey was a great mother and while, Sawyer’s internal monologues were very open, I found it harder to warm to her as she was much cooler in temperament (understandably so).  I think as the story progressed, they did hurt and heal each other at various parts but their connection and chemistry was really strong and their hard-fought happy ending was all the more powerful because of it. I thought Noah was a very well written and convincing child character and he was so adorable especially with his pet cow! The book deals with difficult subject matters in a very touching way and there is something really heartening to see the two main characters love and be loved by each other and make a home that neither of them had. I would recommend this book.
