Advanced Reader Copy Review: The CEO And The Moutain Man by Kelly Fox

The CEO and The Mountain Man by Kelly Fox is part of Snow Creek Ranch, a multi-author series and can be read as stand-alone. I really like reading Kelly Fox’s stories, as they deal with heavy topics in heartfelt and amusing way that really resonates and this story continues in that pattern. Following a horrific accident that results in a death, Clark (the CEO) takes his grief-stricken son River to a Queer-friendly ranch in Colorado, where River can heal both physically and emotionally following the death of his mother/Clark’s ex-wife. While there Clark meets Mountain man Beau, and the two develop a friendship which eventually blooms into a loving relationship. At its heart, this a touching story about loss, parental guilt and learning to love the before and after versions of someone following a traumatic event.
I really liked Clark as a character, his love for River shone through and even though he was a fish of water on the Ranch, he didn’t care. He would do anything for River and that parental love was touching to see. Clark was so open, kind and caring that it was no surprise that Beau was attracted to him and really responded to his warm nature. I really liked the fact the two acknowledged their attraction and decided to act on it with minimal angst. Their communication as a couple, when they communicated, was great and as strong as their physical and emotional interactions. As you would expect from a Kelly Fox, there were spicy scenes and these added to emotional weight of the story.
I liked the world-building as part of the ranch and the call out to characters from previous series, although it was not necessary to be familiar with them to enjoy it. The story does deal with quite strong emotional themes which can be distressing to read, but ultimately it is story about learning to live with loss, healing and moving forwards. This is a good addition to the Snow Creek series.
