Book Review

The Prince and The Bodyguard by Nora Phoenix and is the fourth book in The Prince Pact series, although I was not aware of this at the time I requested the book and I was able to read it as a standalone. The story follows Prince Gregory or Eddie, who is fourth in line to the Crown, as he escapes to the US for an opportunity to live anonymously for a year while undertaking a degree. Eddie agrees to 24/7 US undercover security detail in order for this arrangement to happen and that’s how he meets Bash. The two pose as a couple to provide an appropriate cover story as to why they are living together. While Eddie is aware of his sexuality, he has never had a safe opportunity to explore it further which the forced proximity affords both Bash and Eddie. The two fall for each other but with The Crown and its obligations waiting for Eddie when the year ends, will their relationship survive contact with the real world?

Nora Phoenix is one of my go-to authors and this my first time reading one of her Royal Romances and I really did want to like it, but it didn’t quite work for me. Eddie and Bash were quite emotionally contained characters and as such their personalities were cooler and it took a while for me to warm up to them. It was an ok story, and the pacing I found a bit slow until it wasn’t. By the time, they became a couple my interest was waning and that made it harder for me to engage with the dramatic events towards the end. I was glad that they got their happy ending and the epilogue was enjoyable to read. I think if you already into this set of stories than this book will be a good read.
