Book Review: Transition by Nicole Dykes

Transition by Nicole Dykes, is the third book in the Oakley’s Crew Series and features Gabe and Dakota. Gabe is dealing with a lot of change following the breakdown of his marriage to Shelley, the mother of his young daughter Amber. The loss of the life he was expecting has thrown him into confusion and then when Shelley announces her pregnancy with her new husband, it is real moment of hurt for him even though he knows their marriage had run its course.

By chance, he meets Dakota, when Oakley sends him to build a Greenhouse on Dakota’s land. Unfortunately, due to bullying when he was younger, Dakota isolates himself and doesn’t really want to interact or meet anyone. Gabe is drawn to him and teases him out his shell and what follows is a beautiful story of two men learning to trust, love and live again. I liked both these characters immensely. I particularly liked that when Gabe realised he was attracted to Dakota, he embraced it and eventually decided that he didn’t need a label. Dakota was the pricklier of the two, but he was a just a sweetheart and Gabe, opened up his world and made him feel safe and loved. It was nice to re-visit the Oakley crew and I thought Amber was an adorable child! This is a low angst but emotional story with a sweet and well-deserved HEA. 4.2/5
