Bookish Musings - The Importance of A Happy Ending
It should not come as a surprise, that as a fan of Romance I think about it quite often. I devour it in books and I love watching all types of Romantic movies from the cheesy to the profound. Sure it can be formulaic and the quality can vary, but at its heart the essence of a Romance is the same. Watching Heroes and Heroines find their love, or loves, and reach their happy ending soothes my soul, in way that I can’t really explain, although I am going to try to (probably quite poorly) in the next few lines. I think a happy ending is incredibly important, it is a promise from the author to the reader - that no matter what the protagonists go through, that no matter how dark the journey gets or how many twists and turns there are. The ending will be happy. The lovers will unite and those who have wronged them will face the consequences. The Good will come out on top and that love really will conquer all. In a world that finds itself becoming increasingly dark, where fate isn’t always kind and life isn’t always fair, I think a Romantic Happy Ending can be incredibly powerful and can give a little bit of hope, light and warmth to those that seek it.
