May Reads - Book Breakdown
May was a bit of an unusual month as there was lot going in terms of family life, so I was pleasantly surprised to look back and see that I had managed to read. I think this is potentially an outlier and as we head towards the Summer, I don’t expect this level to maintain nor would I put myself under the pressure to maintain it either. To be frank, if I am not reading for my pleasure then I am not reading at all!
May Reads
The most interesting thing to me about this month’s data is the whopping increase in ARCs I read! I have really tried to ease myself into that side of reading and I don’t really know why it was so high. I am pleased that I was able to turn them around on time and that I was still able to read my normal TBR, but obviously reading more of one side means reading less of the other! In terms of my TBR, this month was a really good spread of tropes and I think I enjoyed it being more varied as well.
I do love a good pie chart for showing the percentages! As I mentioned above, ARCs accounted for a sizeable chunk at 45% of reading this month and maybe I would prefer that to be closer to 30%. It is a bit a of an odd quibble, I am really lucky to have options and I don’t take that for granted at all. I think it is just trying to pace myself so that I can get to read all the things I enjoy in a timely fashion and I am bit less like a kid who has discovered pick’n’mix for the first time! There were some newer categories this month, I do have soft spots for both Age Gap romances and Adult entertainer romances so it was nice to read some of those. Sports, I guess is my main stay and this might be my lowest read since I started tracking. I say this as someone who is fully aware that a number of new ICE Hockey books are about to release, so probably that number will track upwards again! As always, it will be interesting to see what next month’s book breakdown looks like.
